Ordained a priest of the Diocese of Metuchen in 1992, Father Christy was appointed by Bishop James F. Checchio to serve as the Vicar General in June 2018. He also serves as the diocesan Episcopal Vicar for Evangelization and Communication and as Moderator of the Curia.
As Vicar General, Father Christy functions primarily as an adjunct to the bishop in areas of administration and governance of the entire diocese.
As Moderator of the Curia, he is responsible for leading and coordinating diocesan operations and administration in order to assure that diocese’s goals are met with respect to effective and efficient operations, reliable financial reporting, and compliance with applicable laws and regulation. He also works with diocesan staff to appropriately support the bishop in his chief roles of teaching, sanctifying, and governing the faithful and to foster mutually responsive relationships with diocesan institutions (parishes, Catholic schools, etc)
Prior to coming to the diocesan offices, he served as pastor of St. Magdalen de Pazzi, Flemington, NJ from 2002-2017, as well as being the parochial vicar at several parishes throughout the Diocese. He is an Adjunct Instructor of Pastoral Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University.
Father Christy received his priestly formation and Master of Divinity at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Philadelphia. In 2012 he was granted an academic sabbatical to study at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Detroit, for a License in Pastoral Theology with a concentration in the New Evangelization.
Father Christy currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of Governors for St. Peter's University Hospital, the Board Chair of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Ediison, and serves as a Board Member of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen.
Father Christy is an Equestrian Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and Knight of Columbus, Third Degree. He finds his greatest joy in preaching and teaching the Gospel message in any and all settings.
