The Most Reverend James F. Checchio was ordained and installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen.
The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Metropolitan Archbishop of Newark, served as the principal consecrator at the installation Mass, which took place at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield.
On the eve of the Bishop Checchio's ordination, Monday, May 2, there was a celebration of Evening Prayer and blessing of his pontifical insignia at 6 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, Metuchen.

A press conference to announce Pope Francis' appointment of a new bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen was held on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway.
