World Mission Sunday
World Mission Sunday is the second to the last Sunday in October every year -- a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit to the Church’s missionary activity. We are called through our Baptism to become missionaries by sharing His Good News and reaching out to our brothers and sisters - hungry not only for food but for the love of Jesus.
Participants in "The Extra Mile for Kids in Need of Jesus" pose for a photo before they begin a walkathon through the neighborhood around the cathedral.
The World Mission Sunday celebration highlights the outreach of local churches through priests, religious and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world away. Life-changing help is provided to mission churches in territories covering more than half the globe. Your prayers and generous support offered to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith on World Mission Sunday, directly benefit the mission church – and help deepen your relationship with Jesus by helping so many missionaries around the world.
Through the work of lay people, religious sisters and brothers and priests, the World Mission Sunday collection helps support, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith:
- 194,855 schools
- 5,246 hospitals
- 17,530 health clinics
- 577 leprosy centers, and
- 80,560 social and pastoral projects
Updated REMITTANCE FORM
As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is “an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world.” (Redemptoris Missio 81).
