Diocese of Metuchen to begin year of awakening Dec. 12

December 05, 2018

METUCHEN – Bishop James F. Checchio will preside over evening prayer Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, 548 Main St. All are welcome.

The liturgy will launch a “Year of Awakening” for Catholics in the Diocese of Metuchen and will begin a time of intentional preparation that will lead to a consecration of the Diocese of Metuchen to Jesus through Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12, 2019. The chosen date marks the traditional Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who is known as the Patroness of the Americas and the Star of the New Evangelization.

Bishop Checchio’s overwhelming desire is to renew and awaken the faith in each and every heart and, in doing so, to begin a new great wave of evangelization in parishes and institutions. Over the next year of preparation, he hopes people of the Metuchen Diocese will be inspired to make a personal commitment to know and grow in friendship with Jesus Christ.

All people of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties are invited and encouraged to participate, including those who regularly attend Mass, those who no longer come to church and those who have not yet made the personal decision to follow Jesus Christ.
