A Mass for all Scouts of our diocese and their families will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 7:00 pm at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854.

Scouts who have completed any of the Catholic religious awards in the past year will be recognized for their accomplishments, but all Scouting families are encouraged to attend. Won't you consider joining us?

Please arrive by 6:45 pm if your child will be receiving one of the following religious awards - Ad Altare Dei, Pope Pius XII, I Live My Faith, Mary, the First Disciple or Spirit Alive.  All of these emblems require completed, approved paperwork filed with the diocesan office by Monday, June 10th.

All other emblems including Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, God is Love, Family of God and patch programs such as Our Lady of Guadalupe will be recognized at Mass but youth should have already received these awards at parish ceremonies.

Paperwork should be sent to the Diocese of Metuchen Catholic Scouting in care of Maria McNulty at P.O. Box 191, Metuchen, NJ  08840,

Boy Scout Ministry

Many young people of our diocese are now, or previously have been, involved in the Boy Scout Ministry in Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, sponsored by our parishes and schools. Each year in our diocese, we celebrate a Scout Mass in June to recognize all those involved in scouting. Through the Boy Scouts of America awards program, Catholic scouts are provided the opportunity to earn different religious emblems, which are provided by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Awards

All applications for diocesan Boy and Girl Scout presented religious emblems are due to Maria McNulty by May 28, 2019.  A Board of Review for Boy Scouts is scheduled for June 2, 2019.

Any scout interested in earning their award may obtain the booklet online at praypub.orgscoutstuff.org, or their local council office. Cub Scouts need to seek approval from their pastor to begin and work with their families to complete their award book. When the booklet is completed, the scout will need to review it with his pastor and get the necessary signature. When the booklet is completed, the scout will need to review it with his pastor and get the necessary signature.

Girl Scout Ministry

Religious recognition programs are available to those involved in the Girl Scout Ministry. The programs reinforce formal religious instruction provided by parishes. Small groups of girls meet – separate from troop meetings – with a practicing Catholic adult. The program books, published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry of which the National Catholic Girl Scout Committee is a member, include guidance for Advisors and parents. Any girl scout wishing to purchase a book may contact Maria McNulty at 732-562-2446 or visit  http://store.nfcym.org/shop/pc/home.asp.

Books purchased through the diocese are $7.00 and medal awards are $6.50.
