The Peace Light from Bethlehem is a continuously-burning flame, originating from the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Israel. It has burned continuously for over one thousand years and is meant to promote peace, harmony and unity among the people of the world regardless of religion, race or ethnicity. Each year, the light is passed by Boy Scouts and Girl Guides/Scouts to over thirty European countries and, since 2001, to the United States, Canada and Mexico as well.
The Peace Light is scheduled to arrive at St. Bernard of Clairvaux on December 16 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass.
Individuals may bring candles and lanterns so that they can bring the Peace Light to their homes for the Advent and Christmas season. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who would like to participate in the Peace Light ceremony should come in uniform and meet in the narthex of St. Bernard at 10 a.m. St. Bernard is located at 500 Route 22 East, Bridgewater, NJ. Peace to all of you!
Many young people of our diocese are now, or previously have been, involved in the Boy Scout Ministry in Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, sponsored by our parishes and schools. Each year in our diocese, we celebrate a Scout Mass in June to recognize all those involved in scouting. Through the Boy Scouts of America awards program, Catholic scouts are provided the opportunity to earn different religious emblems, which are provided by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.
After the pastor signs the form, the scout should keep a copy and send the original form with a check made payable to the Diocese of Metuchen in the amount of $8.50 per medal to:

Religious recognition programs are available to those involved in the Girl Scout Ministry. The programs reinforce formal religious instruction provided by parishes. Small groups of girls meet – separate from troop meetings – with a practicing Catholic adult. The program books, published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry of which the National Catholic Girl Scout Committee is a member, include guidance for Advisors and parents. Any girl scout wishing to purchase a book may contact Maria McNulty at 732-562-2446 or visit http://store.nfcym.org/shop/pc/home.asp.
Books purchased through the diocese are $7.00 and medal awards are $6.50.
