On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, the Diocese of Metuchen recognized its Scouts with their families who completed any of the Catholic religious awards during the past year. Rev. Timothy A. Christy celebrated the Mass, which was held at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center chapel in Piscataway. Concelebrants included: Msgr. Michael J. Corona, Moderator of the Catholic Scouting Apostolate and adminstrator to St. Luke Parish; Rev. John J. Barbella, pastor, St. Philip and St. James Parish, Rev. Keith M. Cervine of St. Helena Parish, and Rev. Edmund A. Luciano III, parochial vicar, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish.
Many young people of our diocese are now, or previously have been, involved in the Boy Scout Ministry in Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, sponsored by our parishes and schools. Each year in our diocese, we celebrate a Scout Mass in June to recognize all those involved in scouting. Through the Boy Scouts of America awards program, Catholic scouts are provided the opportunity to earn different religious emblems, which are provided by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.
After the pastor signs the form, the scout should keep a copy and send the original form with a check made payable to the Diocese of Metuchen in the amount of $8.50 per medal to:

Please call Maria McNulty at (732) 562-2446 during the hours of operation; Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. You may pick up your medal at that time.
Boy Scouts need to seek approval from their pastor and must work on their religious awards with an approved Counselor or Facilitator – click here for the Counselor Application. For contact for a counselor near you contact Deacon JP Saggese at (732) 261-4322 or email email@example.com.
Religious recognition programs are available to those involved in the Girl Scout Ministry. The programs reinforce formal religious instruction provided by parishes. Small groups of girls meet – separate from troop meetings – with a practicing Catholic adult. The program books, published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry of which the National Catholic Girl Scout Committee is a member, include guidance for Advisors and parents. Any girl scout wishing to purchase a book may contact Maria McNulty at 732-562-2446 or visit http://store.nfcym.org/shop/pc/home.asp.
Books purchased through the diocese are $7.00 and medal awards are $6.50.
This year's annual gathering will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2018 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Bridgewater. The girls will meet at 9:30 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. Please plan to join us and tell your friends. Registration forms will be made available to your advisors later in June or can be requested at DOMgirlscouts@gmail.com.
