Michael Tabernero

Age:     23
Home Parish:   St. Joseph, Millstone, NJ
Seminary Year:   Theology II
Seminary:   St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, PA
What are your hobbies/interests?
I enjoy playing soccer and Frisbee as well as most outdoor activities.  Most especially climbing, hiking, and skiing.
What were you doing prior to entering the seminary?
I entered seminary right out of high school, so my backstory is rather short. Before entering seminary I was mostly playing volleyball, video games and active in the Boy Scouts.
Who or what (Scriptural verses, etc.) were the greatest influences in your decision to enter the seminary and why?
Certainly my parents played a big role in my in my initial discernment by teaching me to pray before bed every night. It was in those nightly prayers that the seeds of my vocation took root.
What advice would you offer a young man who is discerning the priesthood?
The best place to discern whether or not you have a call is seminary. Seminary, especially college seminary forms you to be a good Christian man, so even if you discern out you will leave a better man.
What are some highlights during your time in the seminary thus far that have strengthened your call to the priesthood?
I would say that the process of formation, growing in prayer, cultivating a life of virtue, and becoming more comfortable with people in pastoral settings has strengthened my vocation over time.
