Bishop Checchio joins his brother bishops of the Bishops' Conference of France (Conférence des évêques de France - CEF) in expressing deep regret for the actions that occurred at the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France, on July 26, 2024.
He invites the faithful of the Diocese of Metuchen to join him in prayers of reparation for this scandalous act, which regrettably took place so soon after our uplifting and inspiring National Eucharistic Congress during this time of Eucharistic Revival in our local Church.
The Diocese of Metuchen's Office of Communications and Public Relations and The Catholic Spirit, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Metuchen, will be regularly updating and reporting on the Diocese of Metuchen's participation in the 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, IN, from July 17-21, 2024.
Together with the Bishops of the United States and the Vatican, the National Eucharistic Congress offers our prayers for former President Trump, and those who were killed or injured. The National Eucharistic Congress has been planning for a safe and secure event for all attendees for the past two years. We have retained a nationally recognized security firm who has worked in close coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies throughout. We will continue to be very attentive to security needs for all.
WASHINGTON – Following the news of the shooting at a political rally involving former President Donald Trump today, Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and president of the U.S. Conference of Bishops (USCCB) offered the following statement:
METUCHEN – Bishop James F. Checchio has announced the following priestly appointments. Unless otherwise noted, all appointments are effective July 1, 2024.
May God continue to grant these priests and all clergy in our diocese the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, the words needed to proclaim the Gospel, and joy in their hearts as they minister to His people.
