The Diocese of Metuchen and The Catholic Spirit Recognized with Awards at Catholic Media Association

Representatives from the Diocese of Metuchen attended the Catholic Media Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, June 24-27.

Per tradition, an Awards Banquet is held at the conclusion of the conference. We are pleased to announce that The Catholic Spirit, the official newspaper of the diocese, garnered six awards at this year’s conference!

The Catholic Media Awards recognize and celebrate excellence in Catholic journalism and communications. These awards uphold high standards of integrity and faith-centered storytelling, encouraging media professionals to inform, inspire, and engage the public through authentic portrayals of Catholic teachings and values.

This year’s award winners (in no particular order) are as follows:

• Most Effective Use of Small Space - Third Place - Your Story - Mary Morrell and Peter Nguyen
• Best Layout of Article or Column (Diocesan) - Honorable Mention -Embracing Life’s Journey through Love, Sacrifice and God’s Grace - Mary Morrell and Peter Nguyen
• Best Regular Column (Scripture) - Third Place - Journey of Faith - Fr. John Gerard Hillier
• Best Reporting of Social Justice Issues (Rights and Responsibilities) - Third Place - Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, Launches Mental Health Navigator - Tiffany Workman
• Best Multiple Picture Package (Feature) - Second Place - Our Pilgrimage to the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, July 17-21, 2024 - Gerald Wutkowski Jr., Photographer; Peter Nguyen, Designer
• Best Photograph (Catholic Education) - First Place - Lessons For Life- Stephanie Monteleone
