Pope Francis’s acceptance of Cardinal McCarrick’s resignation from the College of Cardinals is a clear demonstration of the seriousness with which the Holy Father considers this shameful betrayal of human dignity. We all need to pray that we will continue to have the courage to confront these past misdeeds in a forthright and fearless way, and to bind up the wounds that have afflicted us all.
