The Diocese of Metuchen is proud to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our parishioners, we have contributed $58,282.69 to the Black and Indian Mission Collection. This significant contribution, received on November 4, 2024, serves as a profound blessing to the Church throughout the United States.
Established in 1884 as the first National Collection at the Third Plenary Council of Baltimore, this mission has a long history of sharing the Church's resources to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters. Guided by the missionary spirit of St. Katharine Drexel, these funds provide essential grants for:
Evangelization programs in dioceses across the country.
Pastoral care and ministry for African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities.
Spiritual and material support to strengthen the faith of the people of God.
In a recent letter to Bishop James F. Checchio, Reverend Maurice H. Sands, Executive Director of the Black and Indian Mission Office, expressed his deep appreciation: "The grace of the Holy Spirit and the charity of the people of God enable the continuation of the work of evangelization and ministry... I am most grateful to you and the people of your local church for your generosity."
We thank you for your continued prayers and financial offerings. It is through your kindness that we can help the Black and Indian Mission Office assist shepherds in their care for the people the Lord has entrusted to them.
