I trust this letter finds you well and uplifted as we continue to embrace the Easter season's blessings. I am grateful to be able to share the news of a vital initiative being launched by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, to extend mental health services to those in our community who are in need.
Launched in February 2024, the Mental Health Navigator program, rooted in the values of Catholic social teaching, represents a significant stride toward helping to meet the need for crucial mental health assistance and resources for those who require them.
Various factors and family life struggles contribute to the mental health crisis we currently face, including but not limited to the lingering effects of the pandemic on our youth, the challenges posed by the opioid crisis, and the pressures of assisted suicide initiatives on our elderly, sick, and disabled population. Some of these issues can lead individuals to believe that their lives lack value or that they are unimportant. However, we firmly believe that every life is a gift from God filled with dignity. Programs like the Mental Health Navigator are essential to remind individuals in our communities of their inherent worth and to help get them the support they need.
Funded from the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, the Mental Health Navigator service is free to all residents, irrespective of their faith or background, within the four counties of the Diocese of Metuchen (Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren). This service aims to empower individuals to navigate the complexities of common barriers to mental health care.
With services offered in both English and Spanish, residents of Middlesex County can access the Mental Health Navigator program by calling 732-857-3811, while residents of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren counties can reach out by calling 908-333-2822. Participants are encouraged to leave a message on our confidential voicemail line, ensuring prompt assistance within 24 hours.
If you or someone you know requires mental health support, I urge you to reach out. The dedicated staff at Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, always stand ready to assist and accompany you and your loved ones during your time of need, offering healing and peace. I am grateful to Catholic Charities for responding to this urgent need of our time.
Please know that you and your families are in my prayers, and I ask that you also keep me in yours.
With renewed best wishes, I remain
Yours in Christ
