Saint Peter's Healthcare System

Saint Peter’s Healthcare System was formed in 2007 as an outgrowth of Saint Peter’s University Hospital, which celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2017. Saint Peter’s is renowned for the quality and scope of its health and wellness services, all of which are delivered with a care and compassion that are inspired by its Catholic heritage. Saint Peter’s is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.

Besides the hospital, the system is comprised of the Saint Peter’s Foundation, its fundraising arm; Saint Peter’s Physician Associates, a network of primary and specialty care physicians; and the Saint Peter’s Health and Management Service Corporation, which oversees various initiatives including: the CARES Surgicenter, an ambulatory surgery center in New Brunswick, and the Saint Peter’s University Hospital Family Health Center in New Brunswick, which serves, among others, juvenile victims of sexual abuse, economically disadvantaged families, and mentally challenged and/or violence-prone youth.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital is a regional specialist in women and children’s services, including midwifery services and the new Mary V. O’Shea Birth Center; diabetes; oncology; orthopedics; geriatrics; and ambulatory care. The hospital has earned accreditation by the American College of Surgeons for its cancer program and for its breast center. Saint Peter’s is also designated as a primary stroke center by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission. Saint Peter’s University Hospital is a sponsor of residency programs in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and internal medicine, and is also a major clinical affiliate of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.

The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital is a state-designated acute care children’s hospital and is one of the largest and most accomplished in the region, providing families with access to a full range of pediatric specialties. Saint Peter’s Children’s Hospital includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as part of the state’s first Regional Perinatal Center, which was ranked 34th in the nation and tops in New Jersey by U.S. News and World Report in 2019.
