Francis in Iraq, an original documentary film shot on location in Iraq during the years of the ISIS war and its aftermath, brings viewers directly down the perilous path between hope and tragedy that confronts the remaining Christians of Iraq. Centered around the historic first-ever Papal visit to Iraq in March, 2021, the film takes us alongside the battered Iraqi Catholic Church as together with Pope Francis they bring to an astonished world the first positive news of long-suffering Iraq most have seen in decades. Produced and directed by critically acclaimed author and photojournalist Stephen M. Rasche, in partnership with the Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese of Erbil where Rasche has served since 2014, Francis in Iraq gives voice to the Iraqi Christians themselves in a film of unprecedented access to their continuing hopes and fears, all amidst the renewal of courage delivered by the Pope “of the margins.”
