Driven by the Social Teachings of the Church and the Diocesan Synod Norms related to Social Justice, the Office of Social Justice seeks to promote the Gospel of Jesus through fostering human dignity and the implementation of the Theological Virtue of Charity & Love of Neighbor; all while integrating the Cardinal Virtue of Justice, to eliminate the root causes of unmet need and human suffering.
The Office of Social Justice is integrated into the Social Justice Service Area of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen – directly providing related social services to the poor and vulnerable in our midst. The Office also partners with the other Diocesan Offices, Clergy & Religious, Parish Communities, the USCCB, and all people of good will in advocating for and promoting the implementation of the Catholic Social Teachings throughout the Diocese of Metuchen. Where Charity seeks to respond to immediate needs and to alleviate human suffering in the short term; the Office of Social Justice also works toward long term solutions to eliminate the root causes of unmet need and suffering. The Office of Social Justice strives to effect positive changes at the basic cause level, in order to make lasting change, assure basic human needs, prevent unnecessary suffering, and to uphold human dignity.
Micah 6:8 "You have been told...what is good and what the Lord requires of you: Only to do Justice and to love Goodness, and to walk humbly with your God."
