The New Evangelization

"It is the duty of the Church to proclaim always and everywhere the Gospel of Jesus Christ"
~Pope Benedict XVI~

"The New Evangelization calls each of us to deepen our faith, believe in the Gospel message and go forth to proclaim the Gospel. The focus of the New Evangelization calls all Catholics to be evangelized and then go forth to evangelize. In a special way, the New Evangelization is focused on 're-proposing' the Gospel to those who have experienced a crisis of faith. Pope Benedict XVI called for the re-proposing of the Gospel 'to those regions awaiting the first evangelization and to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization.' The New Evangelization invites each Catholic to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church." ~ United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

The 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops took place in October 2012 at the Vatican and had as its theme “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith."

Prayer for the New Evangelization

Blessed John Paul II, you called all Christians to the New Evangelization. Through your intercession, help us approach the New Evangelization with a sense of enthusiasm. Pray that we embrace the sweet and comforting joy of evangelizing, even at times when proclamation might seem like a seed sown among tears. May it mean for us - as it did for the apostles, for the early Christians, for you and for a multitude of splendid evangelizers all through the Church's history - an interior enthusiasm that nobody and nothing can quench. And may the world of our time, which is searching, sometimes with anguish, sometimes with hope, be open to receive the Good News not from evangelizers who are dejected, discouraged, impatient or anxious, but from ministers of the Gospel who have first received the joy of Jesus Christ, whose lives glow with fervor, and who are willing to risk their lives so that the Kingdom may be proclaimed and the Church established in the midst of the world. Amen.

Blessed John Paul II, pray for us.
