Girl Scout Ministry

Parish Coordinators serve as a local resource for those who wish to receive information about diocesan Catholic Scouting programs. They assume this function for their own parish, or if they wish, for several parishes. They are the local contact available to Advisors, and they facilitate plans for Brownie medal presentations in the local churches.
Religious recognition programs are available to those involved in the Girl Scout Ministry. The programs reinforce formal religious instruction provided by parishes. Small groups of girls meet – separate from troop meetings – with a practicing Catholic adult. The program books, published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry of which the National Catholic Girl Scout Committee is a member, include guidance for Advisors and parents.

The Diocese holds the annual Girl Scout Gathering in the fall. Junior, Cadette and Senior/Ambassador or Scouts that participate will complete several activities for their prospective medals.

The God is Love and Family of God programs are completed by Daisy and Brownie Scouts and their families and medals are often awarded at the girl's parishes on Girl Scout Sunday. Junior, Cadette and Senior medals will be presented at the annual Scout Mass held at St. Ann's Church in Raritan.

Catholic Scouting Programs and Awards

  • The God is Love program is designed for use with students who are in kindergarten or first grade. The program helps students discover an appreciation that God created, cares for, and loves us all.
  • The Family of God workbook was developed for Brownies in 2nd and 3rd grades and can be done over a 3 or 4 month time period.
  • The I Live My Faith program helps Juniors develop self-awareness and their potential as involved members of their troop, as growing members of the community of faith, and as participating citizens of their neighborhood, city or town.
  • The Mary, the First Disciple program was created for Cadettes and Seniors. Through this program, scouts will delve into how they are special and uniquely chosen by God – just as Mary was, while learning about Mary through scripture, art, virtues, prayer, chastity, decision-making, the rosary and sharing of themselves through her example.
  • The Spirit Alive program is offered to Girl Scouts in grades 9 through 12. It assists them in discovering how the Holy Spirit moves within their lives, and calls them to greater participation in the life of the Church.

Volunteers

Are you a scout leader or former scout leader who misses being involved, but are not able to commit to weekly meetings?  We are seeking volunteers to guide scouts through action-oriented programs that complement their religious education programs, to introduce them to ministry and to help them mature in their Catholic faith. Activities are planned with varied time commitments. If you are interested, please contact Maria McNulty at the diocesan office, (732) 562-2446 or mmcnulty@diometuchen.org.
