Boy Scout Ministry

Many young people of our diocese are now, or previously have been, involved in the Boy Scout Ministry in Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops, sponsored by our parishes and schools. Each year in our diocese, we celebrate a Scout Mass in June to recognize all those involved in scouting. Through the Boy Scouts of America awards program, Catholic scouts are provided the opportunity to earn different religious emblems, which are provided by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Awards
Any scout interested in earning their award may obtain the booklet online at praypub.orgscoutstuff.org, or their local council office. Cub Scouts need to seek approval from their pastor to begin and work with their families to complete their award book. When the booklet is completed, the scout will need to review it with his pastor and get the necessary signature. When the booklet is completed, the scout will need to review it with his pastor and get the necessary signature.

After the pastor signs the form, the scout should keep a copy and send the original form and a check made payable to the Diocese of Metuchen in the amount of $8.50 per medal to:

146 Metlars Lane

Please call (732) 562-2446 for hours of operation. You may pick up your medal at that time.

Boy Scouts need to seek approval from their pastor and must work on their religious awards with an approved Counselor or Facilitator – click here for the Counselor Application. For contact for a counselor near you contact Deacon JP Saggese at (732) 261-4322 or email jpsaggese@verizon.net.

Girl Scout Ministry

Religious recognition programs are available to those involved in the Girl Scout Ministry. The programs reinforce formal religious instruction provided by parishes. Small groups of girls meet – separate from troop meetings – with a practicing Catholic adult. The program books, published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry of which the National Catholic Girl Scout Committee is a member, include guidance for Advisors and parents.
