Diaconate

What's New

It is our pleasure to announce the opening of the “Deacons’ Table” founded by Deacon Samuel Costantino, Director of the Office of the Diaconate. Starting on April 30, 2014 and every Wednesday thereafter, deacons throughout the diocese will volunteer to help serve a pasta dinner from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to the less fortunate.  The Deacons’ Table is located at the Holy Spirit Worship Site of the Good Shepherd Parish in Perth Amboy.

The St. Stephen Fund was created to enable our deacons to assist each other in times of need. It is intended to take donated money to be used for the welfare of the members of the diaconate community in the Diocese. Contributions to this fund can be directed to Terry Gertz by having your checks made out to the Diocese of Metuchen.

Bishop Paul Bootkoski has approved a new Deacon Formation Program for ordination in 2019. Please check your Parish bulletin as we are running questions and answers about the ministry of a deacon.  These Q&A, taken from Deacon Bill Ditewig’s book entitled “101 Questions and Answers about Deacons”, are being published during the next several months in preparation for the recruitment of men into the Class of 2019.

The General Information meeting on the Formation Program Class of 2019 will be held on June 17, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Diocesan Center.  Wives are welcomed to attend.

The Formation Class of 2015 (eighteen men) will begin their fourth year of formation classes in the Fall.  Let us pray that their spiritual life continues to grow as they prepare to become deacons in the Diocese of Metuchen.

Also, the Formation Class of 2017 (fourteen men) will begin their second year of formation classes in the Fall.  Let us pray that their spiritual life continues to grow as they prepare to become deacons in the Diocese of Metuchen.

Deacon Patrick Cline will be serving as the Associate Director for the Class of 2019.  He also serves as the Associate Director for the Class of 2015.
