Canonical and Legal Services

The Department of Canonical and Legal Services combines the various diocesan offices dedicated to the ministries of justice and communication to provide the most effectual service to the parishes and faithful of the Diocese of Metuchen.

The Office of the Chancellor assists the Bishop by promoting greater understanding of and applying universal and diocesan Church law and policy. The Chancellor also oversees the diocesan commissions for Historical Records, the Ecumenical and Interreligious Initiatives and the Refugee Resettlement Program.

The Tribunal serves those whose marriages have ended in divorce, through a healing process that reconciles them with themselves, their families, the Church and above all, the Lord.

The Office of the Diocesan General Counsel serves as a bridge between the mission of the Diocese to serve the People of God and the civil law reality within which the Church exists.

The Office of Communications and Public Relations seeks to inform the public about the work of the Diocese through both Catholic and secular media outlets. In addition to promoting the ongoing efforts of the Diocese and its leadership, the office seeks to evangelize to all people, at all times, in all places and to foster a sense of good will among those who live, work and worship in Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties.

The Catholic Spirit, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Metuchen, serves the Bishop by advancing his vision of the Diocese, by promoting ministries, programs and activities of the Diocese. It is a vehicle for evangelization, education and enlightenment.
