and installed as chief shepherd of the diocese May 3

On May 3, the Feast of Saints Phillip and James,
The Most Reverend James F. Checchio was ordained and installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen.

The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Metropolitan Archbishop of Newark, served as the principal consecrator at the installation Mass, which took place at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield.

On the eve of the Bishop Checchio's ordination, Monday, May 2, there was a celebration of Evening Prayer and blessing of his pontifical insignia at 6 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, Metuchen.

To allow for greater participation of the faithful, the Diocese of Metuchen, in concert with the Diocese of Brooklyn, provided a live satellite broadcast of the Mass on NET TV, EWTN and CatholicTV, which was also streamed online on the associated websites, including this webpage. A link to the recording will be posted to this web page once it becomes available.
